2016 Conference Keynote Speakers
NAEHCY is pleased to announce our keynote speakers for this year’s conference. You'll be informed and inspired!
Sunday, October 30
Dr. Tiffany Anderson, Superintendent of Schools, Topeka, KS
Dr. Tiffany Anderson, a Kansas resident for many years, has been a public school educator for 23 years, and the majority of that time has been as a superintendent. She has improved achievement and closed achievement gaps in rural, urban, and in suburban public school districts. The Washington Post and NPR referenced Dr. Anderson as "The superintendent who made schools work for poor children.” We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Anderson as our opening day keynote speaker.
Monday, October 31
Jessica Sutherland, Founder and CEO, Homeless to Higher Ed
Jessica Sutherland spent nearly six years battling homelessness in the suburbs of Cleveland, where she found a safe place, and hope for the future, at her high school. With the help of devoted educators and a pretty amazing foster family, Jessica made it to college right after high school, but struggled to find her path. Fast forward a few years, and Jessica has found her place as a co-founder of Homeless to Higher Ed. We are thrilled that Jessica is sharing her story of hope and resilience with us this year as our Monday keynote speaker.
Tuesday, November 1
John Bridgeland, Founder and CEO, Civic Enterprises
John Bridgeland is Founder & CEO of Civic Enterprises, Vice Chair of Service Year Alliance at The Aspen Institute to make a service year a common expectation and opportunity for all 18-28 year olds, Co-Convenor of GradNation to reach a 90 percent high school graduation rate in 2020, and Vice Chairman of Malaria No More, a nonprofit working to end malaria deaths in Africa by the end of 2015. Previously, Bridgeland was appointed by President Obama to serve on the White House Council for Community Solutions. He also served as Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, Assistant to the President of the United States, and first Director of the USA Freedom Corps under President George W. Bush. His list of accomplishments is long and varied, and we are delighted that he is sharing his time with us as our Tuesday morning keynote.
