ESSA Powerpoint Presentations

The McKinney-Vento Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 - This editable PowerPoint Presentation is the full-length, updated version of NAEHCY's “McKinney-Vento 101” presentation. It incorporates the ESSA amendments, and federal guidance, into a basic overview of the education subtitle of the McKinney-Vento Act, and selected parts of Title I, Part A. Strategies for implementation and links to more resources also are provided. We suggest reading this full version for all the details, and then using a medium-length version, or shorter-version, that best fits your time and audience.

ESSA Spotlight: Improving Access to HUD Homeless Assistance Programs - This editable PowerPoint provides information about the new authority under ESSA for school district homeless liaisons to determine that children and youth meet the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) definition of homelessness. It provides a basic overview of HUD homeless assistance, explains both the education and housing definition of homelessness, and provides considerations on eligibility and documentation.

Educating Homeless Children and youth in the ESSA Era: An Overview. On October 1, 2016, amendments to the McKinney-Vento Act made by the Every Student Succeeds Act go into effect. This webinar provides an overview of the key changes in the law, as well as new federal guidance. Topics will cover amendments to eligibility, the role of liaisons, state coordinator responsibilities, school selection, transportation, immediate enrollment, disputes, preschool, unaccompanied youth, and Title I Part A.
