Steven M. Neier, Chair of the Higher Education Committee, is an Assistant Dean in The School of Education at St. John’s University, in New York.  Steve has been involved with NAEHCY since he first became a member of the Higher Education Committee in 2014.  He is a former English 7-12 teacher and Intervention Assistant who believes that teacher preparation programs can- and must- do more to raise awareness of the homeless student population.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts in Theology at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, NY; and a Master of Science in School Building Leadership at St. John’s University.  Planning to study for a doctorate, he hopes to conduct research that will help students experiencing homelessness.  He has proudly participated in a Vincentian Mission cohort and a Vincentian Mission Institute cohort at St. John’s, more deeply learning and embracing the University’s mission to the poor and marginalized in the charism of St. Vincent de Paul.  A native New Yorker, Steve has two younger brothers and a younger sister, and is the proud uncle and Godfather to his niece Charlotte.
