In her role at Florida State University, Ms. Jackson is dedicated to the education and support of students’ academic and professional development. Her responsibilities encompass designing and delivering courses in social work, including social welfare policy, human behavior, and clinical practice. She is actively involved in mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students, offering guidance on academic paths and career aspirations. Ms. Jackson contributes to the ongoing enhancement of the social work curriculum by integrating current research and promising practices. Furthermore, she collaborates with community partners to raise awareness about critical social issues, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application.
Ms. Jackson remains current in her field through continuous learning, research, and conference participation. She also contributes to the university through her service on various committees focused on curriculum development and student affairs, with a particular emphasis on supporting students with histories of foster care and homelessness. Her advocacy extends to local, state, and national levels.
Ms. Jackson brings over a decade of valuable experience in postsecondary education administration and student support. She possesses a strong ability to identify and address the diverse emotional, social, academic, and systemic barriers that can impede access, retention, and graduation rates for diverse student populations. Her expertise lies in providing specialized support to students with backgrounds in foster care, relative care, homelessness, and those under state guardianship. Ms. Jackson has also contributed to the field through publications in reputable journals, focusing on the equitable education of college students with histories of foster care and/or homelessness. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida.
Driven by a deep commitment to social justice and equity in education, Ms. Jackson is a passionate advocate for students with histories of homelessness and foster care. Her background in teaching and research with marginalized populations has provided her with a profound understanding of the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. She is dedicated to ensuring that students facing homelessness have access to the necessary resources and support to achieve academic success through higher education. Ms. Jackson’s overarching goal is to challenge and change inequitable educational systems, empowering students to reach their full potential and experience the lasting benefits of educational attainment.
