Leanne Wheeler is the California State Homeless Coordinator and has been since 2001. California has approximately 1400-plus local educational agencies (LEAs), and over 260,000 enrolled homeless children and youth.
Leanne’s biggest passion is offering the resources, technical assistance, and support that homeless children and their families need through on-going communication with the LEAs. Updating CDE’s homeless education web site, creating a California homeless education poster, and implementing a toll-free number for families are just a few of the activities that she has been pleased to implement. She is always open to ideas, suggestions, and comments about how to better serve California’s homeless population and their education process.
Leanne has a 15 year old son who is the light of her life! She cherishes her family, her friends, and her liaisons.
