Meet Our Scholars
NAEHCY Scholars are academically determined and socially responsible students who have experienced homelessness and are actively pursuing their post-secondary education. Our scholars hail from across the U.S. with diverse backgrounds, and are united by their desire to give back and make a positive impact on society.
Gabrielle, Wisconsin
Gabrielle is a recent graduate of Milwaukee Area Technical College. She is earning her bachelor’s degree in Finance at University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, with a certificate in Investment Management, and is scheduled to graduate in May, 2026.
“I always tell people I am doing this for the little girl in me that did not see this when she was younger.”
Sydney, Texas
Sydney is a student at the University of Texas – MD Anderson in Houston. She’s studying Health Care Disparities, Diversity, and Advocacy. She plans to go to physician assistant school and pursue a career in addiction medicine.
“I want my patients who look like me to have someone that understands them.”
Angelica, California
Angelica is planning to major in Speech Pathology and her first choice college is University of California, San Diego. She was inspired to pursue this field by witnessing her parent’s positive progress through working with a speech pathologist.
“I want to let everyone know that you are loved, and you are accepted, and your path is enlightened.”
Elijah, California
Elijah is a first-year student at Mt. San Jacinto College studying multimedia with a specific interest in photography. He plans to pursue a career sports photography and has already begun building his portfolio, photographing teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Sparks.
“There’s people that have gone through this and we’re still able to be successful.”
Lono, Texas
Lono is a high school senior who plans to major in Linguistics in college, to better understand how languages work as a whole and also in order to travel and open doors to new opportunities.
“Going to college was as much of a fantasy as having a pet dragon… it didn’t feel like something I should be able to do.”
Esmeralda, California
Esmeralda is studying Sociology at University of California, Berkeley and plans to pursue her PhD in either Public Policy or Sociology after graduation. She hopes to one day start a nonprofit to provide mentorship for homeless youth.
[Homelessness] was simply just a circumstance and not so much an identity. It’s something we can all overcome.
Kaden, Connecticut
Kaden is a first-year student at Lincoln Tech in Milford, Connecticut.
Israel, California
Israel is a Sophomore at California State Polytechnic University- San Luis Obispo.
