From Placement to Progress
Students in foster care often navigate multiple transitions, from placement changes to school moves, while processing trauma and maintaining academic progress and stability.
This session will focus on the whole child and how schools, child welfare partners, and community organizations can work together to create coordinated, student-centered systems of support.
Together, we will explore key ESSA requirements for students in foster care, including Best Interest Determinations/BIDS, transportation collaboration, and immediate enrollment. We will also look at practical strategies to strengthen communication, clarify roles, and support students through transitions, ensuring foster youth have the opportunity to stay connected, supported, and prepared for
the next school year.
Together, we will shift from a compliance lens to a coordination lens to ensure that students in foster care experience stability, continuity, and support along the way.
